Crane Lake is home to Minnesota's
First Firefighter of the Year. Kalie Klaysmat is the driving force in building emergency medical response systems in the Crane Lake area and is involved in developing several "first responder" units along the "edge of the wilderness" between Ely, Minnesota and Lake Kabetogema. Kalie has more than 20 years of experience as a wilderness emergency medical technician and was invlved in creating Minnesota's EMS Regulatory Board.
