Snow and Trail Conditions at Crane Lake

February 1, 2012

Warmer temps have made for some comfortable riding conditions.  Riders are reporting great condition.  While there are some normal bumps in the road the overall satisfaction of the riders seems to be very high.  While we all would like to see some additional snow the groomers are doing a fantastic job keeping up with the demand.  Lake riding seems to still be a favorite, but land trails are in great shape.  It may be brown where you live it is definitely white in Crane Lake and surrounding area!!

HOOOOOOray we did get snow this weekend and after riding we found anywhere from 8-12 inches of fresh snow that fell over the weekend!!  Groomers are out on normal schedules this week getting ready for some fantastic riding.  Over the weekend we rode both lake and land trails, both were good, but the lake riding was really good.....like a big pillow flat too! And guess what it is still snowing!!!  Our are is suppose to get another 2 inches today!   Head up North for what looks to be mild temps and no traffic!!  Our Crane Lake business's are open are ready to serve you!!

What you have been waiting for happened today.....The groomer went North to Ash River by land and tomorrow will groom the link then South to Buyck!!  This is great news, we have enough snow to pan and begin to groom.  We still need snow, but conditions are improving every day.  Lake surfaces are really very nice, smooth and enough snow for lube and cooling.  Come on out and enjoy winter in Crane Lake!!

Blue and Green Trails in Voyageurs National Park are now open! This means that you can safely travel from Crane Lake all the way to Sand Point Lake, Namakan Lake, Ash River, Kabetogama Lake and Rainy Lake.  One trail to Kettle Falls is also staked.  There is nice fresh snow in the bays, so lake travel will be a lot of fun.  There are pressure ridges to watch out for, but otherwise lake travel is safe.  We do have about 4 fresh new inches of snow, so come on up!  There is more snow in the forecast for the weekend.  Land trails are not being groomed yet however.  We'll let you know when they begin that!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  From Crane Lake we wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  We are happy to report the snow is falling in Crane Lake as I write this update.  Yesterday we got a welcome 3-4 inches of snow and today we are projected to pick up another 1-3".  The woods now has about 7"-9" This may not sound like a ton but I think that puts us to the top of MN for current snow fall.  The lakes continue to develop good clear ice.  The National Park Service has staked the lakes from Rainy all the way to Ash River and our local club has staked Crane Lake itself.  The Park will continue to check ice on Namakan and Sand Point Lakes to ensure it is safe before those trails are open.  We hope get this welcome snow packed and start grooming soon.  Keep checking this site for the most up to date conditions from a rider’s point of view.  Our local friendly businesses are ready to serve you!
