Jim Janssen, owner of Voyagaire Lodge & Houseboats reported that fishing for his guests has really picked up. Over the last two weeks, walleye’s have been decent and caught in up to depths of 20' while pike have been in the weeds lines.
Bruce Beste, owner of Cabins on Crane, reported that Matt’s party of 10 from Minneapolis had excellent fishing on Sand Point Lake for walleyes. Fishing in 20’to 26’ feet of water using jigs tipped with just about anything; minnows, leeches, and crawlers. Later, as a bonus, right at about dusk, they spotted three timber wolves running through the yard!
Other guests, at Cabins on Crane, Kyle and Kate, reported excellent walleye fishing on north end of Sand Point Lake. They had a blast catching and releasing several walleyes that were too big to keep. Crawler rigs and some deep water trolling with 15’ diving lures were key to their success.
Daryl’s family, from Alden, who were also staying at Cabins on Crane, had excellent crappie fishing and decent walleye fishing. Their family had two delicious potluck fish fries at the beautiful day use site right on Crane Lake, Casareto’s Beach. If you haven't been to that site, make a point to go see it. Below are Andrew’s big crappies that he caught. Nice job, Andrew!
While staying at Pine Point Lodge, Resort and Motel, Stephanie, reported that the northern pike bite has turned on. She caught this 36” pike using a buzz bait. Others reported that spinner baits were having the same results on pike. The crappies are schooling up and biting in 20 – 25 ‘ of water. Smaller jigs tipped with minnows have worked the best. Meanwhile, the walleyes are in the 20 – 30 ‘ range with crawlers and leeches being the bait of choice.
Another guest, at Pine Point, Dan, from Thorton, IL, caught and released this 18" large mouth bass using tubes which seemed to work the best during the day, and then top water in the mornings and evenings.
As you can see, it appears the recent cooler, overnight temps have had a positive affect on the fishing. Don’t forget to call your favorite Crane Lake destination and book your fall trip right now! Historically, the fall fishing is the absolute BEST! Come and see for yourself!
