Bruce Beste, owner of Cabins on Crane, reported that Mark and his party of 10 from Minneapolis and Hastings reported good fishing. This was their first fishing trip to Crane Lake. Limits of walleye were caught on Crane Lake both Thursday and Friday. A jig and minnow worked the best. Jim and Mark from Ham Lake, MN, caught several lake trout and bass on David Lake and Lilac Lake including this 7 ½ pound trout and 3 ½ pound largemouth. Blue was the color of choice for the trout. Bass were hitting on Scatter-Raps.
Jim Janssen, owner of Voyagaire Lodge & Houseboats, reported that most of our action was at 8-10’ this week. Bass are just starting to get to their beds.
A couple of guests were caught off guard this week at Pine Point Lodge, Resort & Motel. While fishing with a jig and minnow for walleyes, they surprisingly caught prehistoric Lake Sturgeon. The first group unhooked a 49” giant from a black jig with a white eye. It was the biggest fish Steve has ever caught! He fought it for 45 minutes. A different group, Bill, caught a 52” sturgeon. “It took me 55 minutes to reel it in. My arms were sore!” Both men were absolutely thrilled with their monster fish. Meanwhile, Brian and Pete said that the northern fishing was CRAZY on Friday. Using itty, bitty crank baits, they released “piles” of northern from 29” – 36”. Bouncing their baits off of the shoreline and then into the shallow water was their magic trick. Minnows and night crawlers on lindy rigs kept them busy with the walleyes throughout the week as well.
